1) Sichuan University
Sichuan University (SCU) is one of the national key universities directly under the State Ministry of Education (MOE) in China and one of the State “211 Project” universities receiving privileged government support in the Ninth Five-Year Plan click for a full sizeperiod. The University went through two mergers, first with Chengdu University of Science and Technology (CUST), another national key university under the MOE in1994, and then with West China University of Medical Sciences (WCUMS) in 2000, a key university directly subordinated to the State Ministry of Health. The President in office is Prof. Xie He-ping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

2) University of Electronic Science and Technology
Renowned as China’s cradle for the national electronic industry, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (formerly Chengdu Electronic Information Engineering College) is situated at Chengdu, the city of over a thousand-year-old cultural history in “the land of abundance”. In 1956, instructed by Premier Zhou Enlai, UESTC was founded on the basis of the incorporation of electronic divisions of the then three universities including Jiaotong Universities, Nanjing Institute of Technology and South China Institute of Technology. As one of the seven earliest key universities in national defense, UESTC became one of the nation’s key universities in 1960. Then, in 1997 it was included as one of the first universities into “Project 211”, a project in China for developing 100 first-class universities and a number of key fields of research for the 21st century. In 2001, UESTC was admitted into the nation’s Project 985, receiving special support for developing world-class universities and world-famous research-oriented universities.

3) Southwest Jiaotong University
Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) was founded at Shanhaiguan in 1896, named then Imperial Chinese Railway College. It is one of the oldest universities in China majoring in engineering. In 1905, it was moved to Tangshan, Hebei Province, and was renamed Tangshan Jiaotong University, Tangshan Railway Institute, and so on. In 1972, the university was removed to Emei, Sichuan province, and began to use its present name-Southwest Jiaotong University. In 1989, it was moved to Chengdu, and in 2002, the construction of a new campus covering an area of over 3,000 mu was started in Chengdu. With this, a new pattern of “ one university, in two places, with three campuses” is coming into being.

4) Chengdu University of Technology
Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) was founded in 1956. The university was called Chengdu College of Geology before the year 1993. In May 2001, two other colleges amalgamated with the CDUT. CDUT was one of ministerial key universities under the leadership of the Ministry of Land and Resources before 2000. It is now one of Sichuan Province key universities.

CDUT is a diverse university with 15 teaching units including 14 colleges. The specialties of CDUT are mainly in science and engineering with additional programs offered in economics, liberal arts, management, law and philosophy. In recognition of our strength and consequence, 2 degree programs have been appraised as key specialties at the national level and other 11 at the provincial level. CDUT also has 2 key laboratories at the national level and other 6 key laboratories at the provincial level and another 35 research institutions. There are 53 degree programs for undergraduate students, 39 master programs and 16 doctoral programs. In addition, CDUT operates two post-doctoral research stations.

5) Sichuan Normal University
Sichuan Normal University (SNU) is the largest provincial key university with the most complete course offerings among the provincial universities and colleges in Sichuan Province. Located on the beautiful Lion Hill in the eastern suburbs of Chengdu, SNU covers an area of 3,000 mu, and its total building area is about 1 million square meters. There are about 3,000 faculty and staffs. Of this figure, 770 are professors and associate professors, and 150 have Doctor’s degree. There are 17 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering who have accepted SNU positions as chief, part-time or emeritus professors.

6) Sichuan Agricultural University

Sichuan Agricultural University, one of the 100 universities selected by the Chinese government to receive special funding under the “211 Project”, has a predominance of bio-technology and agricultural sciences, and covering fields such as physical science, engineering, economics, management,veterinary medicine, liberal arts, pedagogy and law. Beautified by green mountains and blue rivers, SAU is situated in the well known city of Ya’an,the hometown of Giant Panda and the cradle of Tea Culture of the world, the same as Top ten China glamour city and Chinese excellent tourist city. Its former body was Sichuan Tong Sheng Agricultural School established in 1906, subordinated to National Sichuan University in 1935. It was moved to Yaan city from Chengdu and Sichuan Agricultural College was founded here independently in 1956, renamed as Sichuan Agricultural University in 1985.

7) Southwestern University of Finance and Economics
SWUFE (Southwestern University of Finance and Economics) is one of the premier universities of finance and economics in China. It is run by the Ministry of Education and also one of the top 100 universities in China’s 211 Project, a national initiative to build 100 first-class universities in the 21st century. The campus is situated in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.

The University has modern teaching-and-research facilities, quality athletic and logistic service hardware enhanced with easy Internet and fiber optical connections. The University’s main library houses over 1.15 million volumes. Covering an area of 125 acres, SWUFE maintains a beautiful campus full of lawns, trees and gardens. It has been listed as a fine model of forestation and Garden-Style Campus by the government.

SWUFE is near Du Fu Thatched Cottage, a celebrated residence of Du Fu, a prominent poet of the Tang Dynasty.
8) Southwestern University of Science and Technology

Southwest University of Science and Technology is a full-time, multi-disciplinary national university with over 50 years. The university is supported by the central, provincial and municipal government in common. But it is mainly under the supervision of Sichuan provincial government. The university is one of 14 universities, which are the key universities in the western part of China approved by the Ministry of Education. It is one of 67 experimental universities offering distance education program. The university has qualifications such as recommending its excellent graduates to study for master degree with no examination, offering master degree program for applicants with education background equivalent to college graduates for master’s degree, enrolling international students.
The university is located in Mianyang city, Sichuan Province, which is called as the city of science and technology in China. Originally the campus was Mianyang branch of Tsinghua University. The floor space accounts for 933, 600 square meters. The campus is surrounded with green trees and clear streams. The scenery is pleasant all the year around. It is a great place to study and live.
