SHANXI EDUCATION ORGANIZATIONS ADMITTING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Shanxi is known as Jin for short because it was the place where the Kingdom of Jin was located during the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B.C.). Shanxi is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization and enjoys the reputation of being the cradle of Chinese civilization．Shanxi covers an area of 156,000 square kilometers with a population of over 33 million；there are 1l provincial administrated cities, and 119 counties, county level cities and districts.
Shanxi has a long history and a brilliant culture and, with its tremendous ancient buildings of top historical and artistic value, is honored as the museum of ancient arts．Seventy percent of the nation’s ground cultural relics are in Shanxi．
Shanxi is famous for its natural resources, among which coal is the most abundant one, and it accounts for one third of China’s total coal deposits.
Shanxi enjoys temperate continental climate with four sharply contoured seasons; the annual precipitation is 400-650 mm, but is not evenly distributed.
In Shanxi, there are 19,527 elementary schools with 3,334,300 pupils and a teaching staff of 211,230, of whom 194,574 are full-time teachers; there are 3,891 middle schools with 3,273,618 students and 191,586 full-time teachers. Shanxi has 59 colleges and universities with 484,490 undergraduates, and 53,750 teaching staff members, of whom 33,356 are full-time. 16,604 students are working for their master’s or doctoral degrees in 11 institutes.
