In the end of  Warring States period when the king Qin was conquering north and south and fighting for territory in ancient central China, he found his soldiers are almost exhausted after years of wars, what was worse, the army provisions were often in short supply due to the incovenience of transportation. The king thought about it over and over again, but no method was workable. One day, he happened to meet a group of soldiers who performed extraordinarily bravely, and they seemed to have endless strength, so he asked why, then they told him the reason. One general of their group found occasionally that the beef can be kept for longer time after being baked, and it was also easier to take along due to the volume reduction. What was more important, the soldiers’ energy increased incredibly after eating beef, thus the beef was spreaded widely soon in the whole army, and it turned out that the group of soldiers were really full of physical strength and unrivaled in bravery as expected. After knowing this, the King was very excited. He promoted this idea throughout his army quickly. As a result, though the six countries combined together to fight against him, his army still swept away millions of enemy troops effortlessly like spliting bamboo. In the end, the king of Qin brought the whole country under his control and named himself Shi Huang. And the baked beef was probably the origin of beef jerky.
